Campus Resources
Loyola doesn’t close its doors at 5 p.m. The following is a list of some of the many campus services open for evening students. For more complete information on hours and fees, where applicable, call the Loyola Evening Division at (504) 865-3530. This office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. When classes are not in session, the office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
University Sports Complex
Loyola students have full access to Loyola’s sports facility which includes an olympic-size swimming pool, jogging track, racquetball and handball courts, locker rooms with sauna and steam rooms, weight conditioning areas, and courts for basketball, tennis, volleyball, etc. Family memberships are available at an additional charge. Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC)
The Writing Across the Curriculum Center (WAC), open in the evenings and on weekends, provides assistance with thesis statements, organization, paragraphing, proofreading, documentation, and other writing skills. No appointments are required. Call (504) 865-2297 for more information. Website
Academic Resource Center
The Academic Resource Center provides tutorial assistance in reading comprehension, math, and analytical reasoning skills. There is no charge for these services. Call (504) 865-2990 for more information. Website
Parking/University Police
Loyola has two well-lit, secure parking garages on campus, just steps from students’ classrooms. A reduced parking charge is included in students’ tuition and fee bills. Contact the Loyola Evening Division at (504) 865-3530 for more information.
University Police is staffed on a 24-hour basis to assist students and maintain a secure campus environment. Call (504) 865-3434 for assistance on campus. Website
Career and Development Center
Career exploration is central to all students planning for the future. Individualized consultation with a career counselor may include formal assessments of interests, abilities, and personality traits. Students are directed to appropriate resources for continued exploration including readings, meetings with faculty or alumni, and internship experience. A two-credit course in career exploration is typically offered in the spring semester for intensive focus on career development. The Career Information Library has publications which address possible careers, graduate school admissions, and job listings.
Active job placement assistance is provided to all students who are seeking part-time employment while in school, internship opportunities, or full-time employment at graduation. Services include résumé review sessions, job search workshops, and job fair search techniques. The center hosts a wide variety of potential employers and graduate schools through career fairs and on-campus recruiting. More than 2,500 jobs are listed with the center each year. Website
University Counseling Center
The Counseling Center, located on the main campus on the second floor of the Danna Center (room 208) administers a program of personal counseling, psychiatric services and testing to all registered students. The Counseling Services Center exists to assist students with meeting the varied challenges of community life at Loyola. Concerns for which students have sought services include adjustment issues, grief and loss, eating disorders, sexual violence, anxiety and depression. These services are offered free of charge and on a confidential basis in which the Center records are maintained independently of all other university records. The Center staff includes psychologists, a counselor, a social worker and a psychiatrist who have been professionally trained in their areas of expertise. University Ministry
University Ministry provides daily worship services in Ignatius Chapel (first floor of Bobet Hall), community volunteer activities, prayer groups, and support groups. Call (504) 865-3226 for evening appointments. Website
J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library
The J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library won the 2003 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in recognition of programs that deliver exemplary services and resources to further the educational mission of the university. In addition, the library received the 2004 H.W. Wilson Library Staff Development Award and was ranked 6th in the “Best College Library” category of The Best 361 Colleges by The Princeton Review in 2007.
The state-of-the-art, 150,000-square-foot library offers a variety of seating for more than 700 students and provides abundant wired and wireless access to the Internet. The library offers three computer labs, two multimedia classrooms, four seminar rooms, 14 group study rooms, and an art gallery. The library houses a multimedia production classroom featuring computer workstations loaded with video, audio, imaging, and music production software. The library can accommodate a collection of up to 500,000 volumes and features a reading room for the use of its valuable archival and special collections.
The Monroe Library’s holdings include more than 375,000 volumes, access to more than 27,000 e-books and 36,000 print and electronic journals, 11,000 music scores, 357,000 microform units, and 5,500 media titles. Faculty and graduate students enjoy borrowing privileges at most of the area’s academic libraries. Loyola and Tulane Universities offer reciprocal library borrowing privileges to undergraduates through the TULU program. The library’s interlibrary loan service provides materials not available at Loyola’s libraries. Website
Bookstore
Course textbooks and supplies can be purchased in the campus bookstore in the Danna Center which is open at the beginning of each semester for extended hours and Monday through Thursday evenings during the semester until 6:30 p.m. The bookstore phone number is (504) 865-3262 or 1-800-311-9695. Women’s Resource Center
The educational mission of women’s studies is supported by the programs and services offered by the Loyola Women’s Resource Center. Located in Mercy Hall, Room 103, the center is open “after hours” four days a week to accommodate the needs of City College and evening students. Hours are 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 8:30 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
The center sponsors programs throughout the academic year. The following resources are available:
- a library of feminist/women’s studies literature;
- Internet access to feminist and women’s studies web sites;
- information on graduate programs in women’s studies;
- conference and meeting space.
