Frequently Asked Questions
I want to enroll. Where do I begin? We encourage you to take an important first step by calling to set-up a personal appointment to discuss educational goals and the admission’s process. Please call the Loyola Evening Division at (504) 865-3530 to speak to our admissions counselor or stop by Stallings Hall (Room 211) located on Loyola’s main campus. Once enrolled, each student is assigned an academic adviser who will assist the student in schedule planning. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisers regularly during each term. I attended college a long time ago. Are my credits still good?Transfer credits are individually evaluated to permit maximum transfer of university credits where compatible with Loyola requirements. At least 25 percent of the semester credit hours required for the degree must be earned through instruction offered by Loyola. Do I have to take a standardized test (again)? If you are over the age of 22, SAT/ACT scores are waived. Admission will be based on transcripts and a statement of purpose. How do I go about getting my transcript? As a transcript is a record of previous academic work, you need to contact the high school or previous college(s) attended and request that an official copy be sent to the below mailing address: Loyola University New Orleans Transcript request form available here (Adobe PDF). How many classes do I need to take per semester? Most evening students attend school on a part-time basis and carry six to nine credit hours. A student may not carry more than 12 credit hours unless he or she obtains permission from the dean of the respective college. How are the classes offered? How many nights a week do I need to come?Classes are offered in a variety of formats and time frames. Most classes meet once a week, either in an eight-week-long format or for an entire semester. Intensive weekend courses meet on three or four nonconsecutive weekends from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on Saturday. Video-based, Internet-assisted, and online courses also available. How long will it take to complete a degree? The amount of time it will take to complete a degree depends on a number of factors (i.e. program of study, number of transferable credits, etc.). We invite you to meet with an admissions counselor to review transcripts and discuss educational goals and how they can be achieved. How do I apply for scholarships and financial aid?Recognizing the special financial needs of working students, Loyola has attempted to maintain a reasonable tuition at a level significantly lower than comparable day programs. This practice, in itself a form of financial assistance, does not preclude students from seeking assistance through the traditional financial aid programs. Financial aid is available to all eligible persons. Students who think they may be eligible must fill out the Financial Aid Form. Monthly tuition payment plans are also available. For further information call the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at (504) 865-3231. Students who participate in an employer-sponsored tuition reimbursement program may apply to defer up to 90% of their tuition and fees until the end of the semester. Contact the Loyola Evening Division at (504) 865-3530 for details. Click Here For More Information on Financial Aid. If I begin a program, can I take a leave of absence?Students who find it necessary to “stop out” during the course of their studies must submit a Leave of Absence Form. The leave is good for one year and will facilitate reentry. If I've already completed part of a degree, do I have to start all over again?Students who have had to take a few semesters off can pick up right where they left off. Credits do not expire and carry over from one semester to the next regardless of time. |
