Common Myths

I am too old to go back to school.
Approximately 35% of Loyola University students are 25 years of age or older. Adult learners bring diverse life experiences to the classroom, enriching group discussions.
I don’t have time to continue my education.
Loyola University recognizes life commitments (family, career, spouse) of adult learners. To fit the needs of working students, Loyola offers a complete adult learning environment using various educational formats (lecture, seminar, discussion, Internet, distance education). Plus, Loyola University has accelerated programs that allow students to complete programs in a shorter period of time.

In addition to courses that count towards one’s major, students are required to take core courses which, in liberal arts tradition, ensure the degree-seeking student a well-rounded education. It is through these core classes that a student, unsure of their educational goals, can explore their interests and ultimately decide on a major. Academic advisors are also assigned to each degree-seeking student, and should be used as a resource when mapping one’s educational future.
I cannot afford it.
Recognizing the special financial needs of working students, Loyola has attempted to maintain evening students’ tuition at a level significantly lower than comparable day programs. This does not preclude students from seeking assistance through scholarships or the traditional federal financial aid programs. Scholarships specifically for evening students are also available.
Tuition information sheets are available in the Loyola Evening Division office located in Stallings Hall (Room 211) on Loyola’s main campus.
